Scenes from OLC’s Emerging Technologies Symposium

OLC’s 8th Annual Emerging Technologies Symposium was a terrific opportunity to spend time among educators, instructional designers and program directors, each of whom were there exploring new uses of technology to improve the the learning process for their students. Last week’s conference was our chance to promote YouSeeU 3.0 including our new synchronous meeting functionality. Recordable sync meetings are just one more way for students to learn from each other and can be utilized for role-plays, interviews and live presentations. Adding this component to our list of potential video-based assignments broadens our scope as a technology provider and we were thrilled to announce it to the ET4 assemblage.

We spoke with individuals representing a range of disciplines from Public Administration and Education to Nursing and Transportation & Logistics. All of these educators acknowledged how beneficial it would be to take advantage of video-based assignments for presentations, demonstrations and class discussions. “A-ha moments” were frequent and typically in response to seeing a demo of a recorded sync meeting, our Group Project activity and of course the always impressive Q&A activity.

One of our favorite instructional designers from Penn State World Campus, Penny Ralston-Berg, gave a presentation on “Italian & YouSeeU: Using student-generated video to assess language learning online”.
Missed attending ET4Online and would like to see for yourself what a recorded sync meeting might look like? Enjoy this video of two “students” syncing up to role-play as an Italian hotel employee & a tourist. Ciao!
